Put your finger on the big red “Start” button for your new website? Just wait a second. It’s possible that SEO considerations that have not yet been considered, from a content map of keywords to URLs through tracking errors, can lead to the setting up of a suitable follow-up.

2. Install Google Analytics
Why should you do that?

Google Analytics is the most used web analytics tool in the world. Your free version contains almost everything you need to track and report on the performance of your website.

With SEO, you can track how much traffic you get from search engines, which pages get the most organic traffic, how high your bounce rate is, and many other important metrics.

3. Try to get your main keyword in the URL of your page
Why should you do that?

The keywords in the URL are known to be a classification signal. However, you should avoid filling your URL with keywords: studies have shown that shorter URLs tend to rank higher than long URLs.

Side Note: There are very serious consequences for changing a URL that already has authority: Do not do this if your page already has links!

4. Add your keyword to your title tag. Is your title tag convincing?
Why should you do that?

Although including keywords in the title tag is still important, getting a high score is not enough. Search engines are now also evaluating the percentage of clicks on ranking results. An attractive and compelling title will help you get more people to click on your page.

5. Add your keyword to your meta description. Is your meta-description convincing?
Why should you do that?

The content of the meta description is not used by the search engines as a classification signal. However, it can be helpful if you use your keyword and write an attractive meta-description.

6. Add your keyword to your H1 tag. Make sure you only use one H1 tag and make sure it appears in the document before H2, H3, and so on.
Why should you do that?

Although the value of H2, H3, …, H6 tags for SEO is controversial, it’s usually a good idea to include your main keyword in your H1 tag. Make sure that H1 appears on the entire page. before any other header label.

7. Add traceable text to your page.
Why should you do that?

Make sure you have at least 100 words in each URL (at least, the more, the better). You can still work with fewer ranks and never place unnecessary text on your site. However, I recommend that you do not create a new page unless you have about 100 words of content.

8. Use synonyms in your copy.
Why should you do that?

As search engines develop a more complex understanding of human language, content creators can use a more natural language and remain relevant to the keywords they are trying to classify. The synonyms are excellent and it is strongly recommended that you use a natural language that is influenced by keyword research (not just pure keywords).

9. Add ALT descriptive tags and filenames to your pages
Why should you do that?

Search engines “see” pictures by reading the ALT tag and, among other things, looking at the names of the files. Try to be descriptive when naming your pictures.

10. Link to other pages on your page with friendly text with SEO
Why should you do that?

Google not only considers links to relevant and authorized websites in their content but also the language used in the hyperlink. By including internal links with text relevant to the page you are linking to, and including your keywords, you indicate what content you are linking to.

11. Make sure you do not have duplicate content
Why should you do that?

Duplicated content can dilute the value of your content between multiple URLs.

Use 301 redirects, canonical tags, or webmaster tools to correct duplicate content that may index and penalize your website.

12. Control the speed of your website and keep it fast!
Why should you do that?

Search engines rate websites that offer a good user experience and the speed of your website is an important factor. A slow loading site will increase your bounce rate as visitors lose patience and leave.

13. Make sure your website is compatible with mobile devices
Why should you do that?

As an increasing percentage of web traffic comes from mobile devices, a site that does not respond to different screen sizes and shapes will negatively impact usability, especially for local search queries.

14. Create an XML Sitemap and send it to the Google Search Console
Why should you do that?

An XML Sitemap helps search engines understand the structure of your site and find all the pages on your site that you want to index.

15. Create a robots.txt file and send it to Google Search Console
Why should you do that?

Along with an XML sitemap, a robots.txt file creates what activities the crawlers can perform on each page. By putting an entry in the top-level directory, you can control how a search engine crawls and indexes your website. It can be specified for different types of trackers, so you can set different protocols for different search engines.

16. Claim your brand on as many social networks as possible
Why should you do that?

For reputation management purposes, not only do you want to make sure no one else receives your account name, you can often see all the results on the first search page of your brand if it’s a new website or a new company.

17. Configure the Google Search Console
Formerly known as Webmaster Tools, Search Console is a free tool provided by Google to webmasters (those who manage a website) to obtain data about the status of their website and organic performance in the Google search engine.

18. Focus on the United States? You may want to install Bing Webmaster Tools
Why should you do that?

This is equivalent to Google Search Console for the Microsoft search engine. Bing is the default search engine for Internet Explorer and Edge browsers, which is why Bing has a market share of approximately 10% for desktop searches.

Bing is not as relevant as Google, but not in the US market.

19. Using WordPress? Get a WordPress Google Analytics plugin
Why should you do that?

These add-ons are a perfect answer to track and interpret performance data if you’re not satisfied with adding the Google Analytics tracking code to your website.

20. Using WordPress? Install the free version of Yoast SEO
Why should you do that?

Yoast SEO is a WordPress plugin that allows you to create SEO friendly content. It handles canonical tags, no index tags, and sitemaps.

The free version is very complete and allows you to do almost anything to optimize your WordPress website.

21. Check the Google Search Console for tracking errors, duplicate content errors, missing titles, and other technical errors
Why should you do that?

Previously known as Webmaster Tools, this is Google’s free tool that allows site owners to retrieve data about the search performance of their websites.

It can help you find technical issues with your website, such as duplicate content. And find data on search rankings, visibility and CTR.

22. Spot check redirects problems (especially 302 errors that should be 301)
Why should you do that?

In SEO, the proper use of redirects is crucial. The standard is a redirect 301 that is interpreted by the search engines as a permanent redirect, so it passes almost the entire SEO value of the previous page to the new one. A 302 is a temporary redirect, on the other hand, it is a temporary redirect (eg for website maintenance or special weather actions), so the SEO value of the redirected page is not transferred to the new destination.

23. Look for broken links, errors, and tracking issues
Why should you do that?

The bigger your website, the more important it is. Bad links, errors and tracking errors make it difficult for search engines to find, index and generate traffic.

24. Have you looked at the link profiles of the contest?
Why should you do that?

This is the easiest way to create links. Keeping track of where you get the most authorized backlinks will help you understand your strategy, how to anchor the links on your pages, and provide information about where you can get similar links.
