WordPress can overwhelm the newcomer. And even for those of us who are more experienced, it is difficult to remember each one of the little tweaks that you have to make to get things right.
Fortunately, we’ve done all the hard work for you. Today, we will take you through all the major changes you should make to the settings of a brand new WordPress blog. And once that is done, we will show you why you will never have to go through this process again.
So let’s get to it!
Step 1: Install WordPress
If you do not really know how to bring a website into existence, do not be afraid. It is a remarkably simple process. You can actually buy a domain and hosting, install WordPress, and publish a post – all within 4 minutes. Do not Believe Me Check this video:
As you can see, you can have a WordPress website running and running within minutes. And if you go with a popular hosting provider like Bluehost or Hostgator (which we would recommend), the WordPress installation process can be completed with just a few clicks.
Summary of this tutorial:
In this video I will cover
1. How do I register with Bluehost?
2. Select a hosting package
3. Register a domain name
4. Install WordPress on Bluehost
Link to the start of WordPress on Bluehost:
Link to Premium Topics:
You get a discount with the link I gave above. You will get a free domain name with your hosting package. Some other things you get is a one-click WordPress install, 24/7 support from Bluehost, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. You also get over $ 150 in promotional offers from Google and Bing.
Just a small revelation. The link for Bluehost is an affiliate link. I get a commission that helps support this channel and helps us suspend WordPress tutorial videos regularly.
The first thing we want to do is go to Bluehost.
Here is the link:
Once you click on the link, you will now see a button on the page. Go ahead and click this button. Here we will be able to select our hosting plan. We will see three different options. We will see a base, plus, and a top rate option. If you have more than one website, you can choose either the Plus Plan or the Prime Plan. Go ahead and press the Select button when you find the plan you want.
We are now brought to a domain page, where we can choose the domain name we want completely free of charge. If you already have a domain name, you will see that you can enter it on the right side. When you get a new domain name type, what you want to see when it is available. Be sure to choose a domain extension that you like like .com, .net, .org, etc … Now select the next button.
We are now in creating your account page and here we will enter our information. Below we see package information and contact plan. Here we can select the term for our hosting package. So we can choose 12 months, 24 months and 36 months. You’ll see the longer you go your hosting plan for yours to get a discount and it will actually be cheaper. You see the setup fee is completely free and the domain name is free.
You can select or disable domain privacy, site backup pro, search engine jumpstart, and site lock security. If your is not sure if you want to add any of these, you can always wait and add it at a later date.
In the following, we will enter our payment information. Now we can click on the “Send” button.
Now we are brought to a confirmation page. Bluehost is at this time to send you your dashboard login information.
Step 2: Plugins
You can access your plugins screen by making the Plugins option in the sidebar. A standard WordPress installation is currently bundled with Few WordPress plugins:
Step 3: Your user profile
Setting up your user profile is an important step that many people miss. Depending on your topic, some of your user profiles may be publicly displayed on your website, so you want to make sure that everything is in order. Go ahead and click on “User> Your Profile” in the sidebar:
Step 4: Settings
Here you have to make the most of your adjustments. WordPress is very good for you to display your content in a variety of ways, and it is in the recruitment screens that you make your first few adjustments to see things as you like it.
You can access the setup screens from the sidebar. There are a huge number of options but we will address only the most important ones.
Step 5: Naming
Naming your blog is usually considered quite important and it is on this screen that you do the honors. You should also choose a tagline for your blog or remove the default tagline if you do not want one.
In addition, you want to make sure that the email address is set correctly on the General Settings screen, or you will not receive WordPress posts to your blog.
These are the most important changes you need to make for each new WordPress blog. Sure, there are a whole host of other things that you can do, but the above options are the most important.
Just another thing before you go. Would not it be much better to start with a site that already has your preferred default settings, rather than all the above changes every time you start a new site?
The efficient thing to do would be to set up your new blog as a template so you can clone it on any new website that you are developing. Although this may sound frightening, it is a whole lot easier than you think.
